Department of Biochemistry
Biochemistry is the science concerned with the various molecules that
occur in living cells and organisms and with their chemical reactions.
Thus, it can be defined as the science concerned with the chemical basis
of life. The cell is the structural unit of living systems. Thus,
Biochemistry can also be described as the science concerned with the
chemical constituents of living cells and with the reactions and
processes they undergo. By this definition, Biochemistry encompasses
large areas of cell biology, molecular biology and
molecular genetics.
The discipline of Biochemistry has recently been introduced at UOG. The
Department has a highly qualified and competent faculty having PhD and
MPhil degrees and research experience from reputable national and
international universities/institutions. They strive for excellence in
education, teaching and research, and have produced more than
23 research
publications in journals of international repute. The courses offered
for graduate and post-graduate degree programmes provide the students
with extensive exposure to basic Biochemistry, as well as Cell Biology
and Molecular Biology/Biotechnology.
