Department of Chemistry
Chemistry has
played an important role in the development of human race. It has helped
to provide food, shelter, clothing, medicine and other necessities to
human beings. Thus, the study of chemistry as a subject is important in
the progress of humankind. The main aims and objectives of the
curriculum are to impart a sound knowledge in a creative and analytical
manner. For this purpose, different methods of explanation,
investigation, organisation of data and its utilisation are taught to
the students. This helps them to apply Chemistry in social and
economical spheres, such as health, agriculture, industry and defence.
Further, the courses offered by the department of Chemistry develop and
improve the students’ written and oral communication, as well as
computers and problem solving skills, thereby meeting the needs of the
changing global and national scenario. It encourages the students to
become independent learners, broaden their knowledge, and develop their
capabilities.
The study
programme in Chemistry trains students for specialisation in emerging
technological and multidisciplinary fields, such as Organic Chemistry,
Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry and
Biochemistry. After completing the degree, the students will be able to
apply their knowledge to their respective fields effectively.
