Department of English

Faculty of Oriental and Islamic Studies

The Faculty of Oriental Languages and Islamic Learning currently comprises only the Department of English. However, departments of many other languages – French, Punjabi, Urdu, etc – will be established in the near future, and academic programmes from BS (Hons) to MPhil level will be offered in them. Moreover, the proposed departments of Islamic Studies and Pakistan Studies, which are currently being offered as compulsory courses by all departments of the University at the BS (Hons) level, will become a part of the faculty after introduction of full-fledged academic programmes in the two subjects. It is important to emphasise that the proposed Department of Islamic Studies will be a unique initiative; it will aim at introducing the true face of Islam, opposed to violence in all its manifestations. The University’s Chancellor, Punjab Governor Mr Salman Taseer, has already approved the plan to establish a Sufi Chair under the proposed Department.
