Seminar on "Are Working Women Socially Protected in Pakistan"
Dr Farzana Bari Terms Gender Situation
Complex
All divine revelations safeguard women rights. It is Mulla from
all faiths who misinterpreted the divine message. The Holy Quran
is exclusive in defending women in their rights. No religion
supports patriarchy. Women rights are safeguarded in the
Constitution of Pakistan. There are sufficient movements working
for protection of the women rights all over the world. There is
still room for reforming male’s attitude towards females.
Drastic steps are needed to ensure dignity of working women in
their working environment. These views were exchanged by a
renowned women rights activists and Director Women Studies at
Quaid –e – Azam University Islamabad while addressing a
discussion forum entitled “Are Working Women Socially Protected
in Pakistan” organized by the Economic Department.
Dr. Farzana appreciated students’ inquisitive attitude regarding
socio-economic and human rights affairs. She advised them to
avail the opportunity provided by the University of Gujrat to
transform their personality more viable and learned. She
appreciated the administration for such measure of
socio-academic upbringing of the students. While addressing the
forum Chairman Mass Communication and Media Centre(MCMC) Prof
Syed Shabbir Hussain Shah remarked that it is very unfortunate
that human society since its known history could never be
developed into an egalitarian society. With the passage of time,
Prof Shah remarked that various human factors got involved in
transforming exploitation free society. Executive Director
Bedari Sialkot Arshad Mehmood Mirza was very critical of behavior of
a common man towards working women. He produced enormous
precedents of misconduct against women especially working in
fields and cottage industry. He termed women in general "unsung
heroes" of different societies. He was the critical of the
different organizational roles working for human rights and
especially for women affairs. He stressed need to foster the
campaign of awareness among masses to respect women in all
spheres of life. Director External Linkages at UOG Shahid Minhas
and lecturer at MCMC Rukhsana Riaz also provided presentations
showing plight of the working women in Pakistan.
Principal Nawaz Sharif Medical College Prof Dr Nasir Aziz
Kamboh was also a speaker on the occasion. He unequivocally
opined that not only in Pakistan but all over the world the
answer to all sort of human problems lies in comprehending and
following the teaching of the Holy Quran. He was of the view
that Muslims all over the world are responsible for not studying
and promoting the true and human loving message of the Quran. In
the end Head of Economic Department Prof Dr Atif Ali Jaffri
thanked the learned guests and appreciated the student’s
interactivity. The Student extensively questioned the speakers
on diverse subjects of human rights issues in the question
answer session.
