PM Grants Rs. 100 Million for UOG
Uplift
The University of
Gujrat (UOG) has revolutionized the youth of the area silently.
The UOG Campus under its visionary leadership is playing
landmark role in promoting education in general and among
womenfolk in particular. This was the vision of Shaheed Benazir
Bhutto. To transform Pakistan into modern welfare state, PPP
Govt. is determined to promote education in diverse human
fields. Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani said that minorities
and women are his political constituencies. To voice human
issues, the governments of PPP always acted in forefront. These
remarks were passed by the Prime Minister Pakistan Syed Yusuf
Raza Gillani while addressing as the chief guest in the first
convocation 2010 here at Hafiz Hayat Campus.
The Prime Minister awarded Gold, Silver and
Bronze medals to 86 graduates achieving first, second and third
positions in the examinations of BS(Hons) and MA/MSc from 2006
to 2009 academic sessions. Chancellor UOG, Governor Punjab
Sulman Taseer and Registrar Muhammad Akram Bhatti and Controller
of Examinations Prof Maqsood Akhtar assisted the Prime Minister.
On the occasion the
Prime Minister announced the special grant of 100 million
supporting UOG. The grant will be divided for two purposes i.e.
50 million for Building UOG auditorium and 50 million for
promotion of higher studies of UOG graduates. The Prime Minister
also announced a piece of land comprising 1000 Kanals on behalf
of his Special Advisor Nawabzada Ghazanfar Gull for establishing
the UOG Veterinary College.
Federal Education
Minister Sardar Asif Ahemd Ali, Federal Defense Minister Ch.
Ahmed Mukhtar, Federal Information Minister Qammar Zaman Kaira,
Federal Minister for Population Welfare Firdous Ashiq Awan,
Special Advisor to the Prime Minister Nawabzada Ghazanfar Ali
Gul, Senior Minister Punjab Raja Riaz Ahmed along with Federal
and Provincial Secretaries and other officials, academia and
civil society attended the convocation ceremony.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor welcomed the
Prime Minister and other distinguished guests for visiting the
University of Gujrat and gracing the ceremony. While addressing
the gathering, he explained different features of the purposeful
academic activity at the campus. He said that objective of the
UOG administration is to introduce subjects that offer better
job prospects to the students. He highlighted the facilities
necessary for effective and uninterrupted learning.
The Vice Chancellor also highlighted the
major achievements of the university. Commencement of 4 years BS
Honors program and the administration’s success to receiving the
confidence of parents of students from far flung areas were
quoted in the regard.
The Vice Chancellor explained the learning
environment and the provision of the state of the art facilities
to the students like round-the-clock free of cost wireless
internet connectivity, facilities of the equipped library and
laboratories, furnished audio-visual aids in the classrooms,
video conferencing facility helping develop external linkages
and interaction of students with their fellows in other
universities. The Vice Chancellor highlighted other features
like F.M Campus Radio, established for the learning of media
students, transport facilities, furnished hostels and
cafeterias.
The Vice Chancellor on the occasion drew the PM’s attention
towards some pressing needs to make the UOG sustainable and to
ensure that it could maintain its high academic standards. He
desired the Prime Minister helping generously helping
multi-purpose auditorium, creating University Endowment Funds
and establishing Faculty Development Resource Center. He also
desired the fellowships to the UOG Faculty and students through
Higher Education Commission. Finally, the VC while terming the
School of Art, Design and Architecture (SADA) a success story of
the UOG said that it needs to strengthen and expand in order to
cater to the learning needs of students becoming Center of
Excellence. Here the VC thanked the Federal Government,
Government of the Punjab and the Higher Education commission for
their generosity in providing funds for imparting quality
education to the students of the university.
