The flood relief campaign has stepped its
third phase. The University of Gujrat (UOG) volunteers are
determined to build houses for flood victims in a way, “their
houses will be their homes”. These views were expressed by the
Vice Chancellor University of Gujrat Prof Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin
while dispatching a caravan of 18 trucks carrying relief goods
for victims of flood in southern Punjab districts. The flood
relief campaign carried out by the UOG volunteers had three
significant dimensions. Firstly, the UOG has very quickly setup
a permanent Disaster Management Cell (DMC) to coordinate all
relief activities and develop a repaid response mechanism to
deal with any emergency. Secondly the volunteers of Nawas Sharif
Medical College and Faculty of Engineering physically visited
the disaster hit areas for the assessment of surveillance,
epidemic response and rehabilitation. Thirdly the UOG volunteers
(Including faculty, management staff and students) have played a
tremendous role in providing rations, NFIs (non-food items such
as clothing, shoes, soap etc) and food items (FIs). The Pakistan
Army is collaborating the volunteers in supplying these items.
This dimension of relief campaign helped building donors’
confidence in relief efforts process.
The UOG’s Campus Radio FM106.6 is
broadcasting a special day-long live transmissions “Bara Hai
Dard ka Rishta” to persuade general public sharing the
assistance campaign.
