Education is the art of giving instructions or
training by which people learns to develop and use their mental
and physical powers to face the challenges of life. By keeping
in view all these objectives, University of Gujrat grants
opportunities to students to match conjectural acquaintance with
contemporary statistical work and skills. By applying over
innovative thinking, Department of Statistics arranged a study
tour at Population Census Organization, Islamabad, that 5th
semester of BS programmer’s students studied in subject,
“official statistics”.
Dr.
Zahoor Ahmad (Head of Department) was so kind to accede to
organize the study tour. It was the Special tour of BS program
of Statistics Department at “Population Census Organization”,
which caters to the training program for official of the
organization. We set off form our work place University of
Gujrat on 30th January, 2010 at bright morning 7:00
am. We were 40 students and 6 faculty members. We reached
Population Census Organization at 11:00 am. Students were
escorted by Dr. Zahoor Ahmad, Mr. Rizwan Sajid, Mr. Muneeb Javed,
Mr Yousaf Ali Khan, Mrs. Naima Qaisar and Miss Ummara Sahied.
Students and faculty members were warmly welcomed by highly
regarded members of Population Census Organization. After
reception few verses of Holy Quran were recited, all members
gave introduction of themselves. Mr. Khizar Hayat Khan (Chief
Census Commissioner), Mr. Muhammed Saeed (Census Commissioner) as well as other members of
population Census Organization were also present there.
After that Dr. Zahoor Ahmad gave a
comprehensive preface of The University of Gujrat and the
Department of Statistics. He told that University of Gujrat is
prestigious place that play a basic and important role in
national development and research work, he also told that
statistics department is sacred light tower that give
up-to-the-minute directions to upcoming statisticians by
qualified faculty. He pledge his all-out support in academic
upbringing and training of data analysis and of Statistical
Packages for Social Science (SPSS) techniques to the students of
Statistics.
After that Census Commissioner Muhammad Saeed
made conversant of organization. He enlightened that Population
Census Organization is an attached Department of Statistics
Division is the official agency of Planning and execution of
decennial Population and Housing Census and release its census
reports for public and private use. After that Mr. Muhammad
Saeed gave us a full organizational view from every aspect
through a magnificent presentation consisting of 60 slides in
which he enlightened all objectives, functions, history, agenda
and methodologies of census, formulation of questionnaire and
publications of organization. New technological machineries
(Intelligent character reader) were introduced which were
imported forms abroad. Dr. Zahoor Ahmad also told to the Members
of PCO that in University of Gujrat is also conducting the
Social Sciences Laboratory to collect the data from the
surrounding of Gujrat to help the students for their research
work. Further he described that surrounding’s area maps are also
developed that will helpful in data collection. Mr. Khizar Hayat
Khan offers to provide us the maps of Gujrat’s surroundings.
Later
on cross questioning from students, faculty and constituents of
organization got started. Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Suggested about more
broad census polices and techniques. He proposed to publish a
research general for collaborative scientific research work with
universities that will be helpful to make the government
policies moreover. Further Mr. Yousaf Ali Khan suggested about
hiring the social sciences students for collecting the census
data. By noticing the capabilities of faculty and students of
University of Gujrat they offered jobs and internship
respectively. After that a bit refreshment was taken and Chief
Census Commissioner Mr. Khizar Hayat Khan appreciated a lot to
the faculty and students. It was a two-hour conversation view of
sitting with honorable members of Population Census organization
and Mr. Muhammed Saeed expressed his hope that
students visit to Population Census Organization will bring both
institutions closer in collaborating research work and academic
training.
At last we departed from organization with an extensive
knowledge and aims. It do best and to get marvelous skills, it
seems very difficult to describe the strange feelings and
sensations after successful visit at Population Census
Organization.
